Week 37

This is probably going to be the last blog entry. Actually I'm not sure, depends when grades a re locked in. If it's before next Monday than yeah, this is the last blog. If not I will be on this blog again next week. This week is basically the last week of school. Our finals are this week and next week we will just have service days. All I have to do is power through this week and and finish of strong for the school year.

Week 36

I had a busy week. I'm in the process of moving so there is a lot packing and chaos in the house. Over the weekend I had to film a campaign ad with my friends for and APUSH project. The finished project looks pretty good.School is finally ending and I can't wait until this school year is over. Over the summer I will be working at the library for volunteer hours.

Week 35

This week I played with Varsity in the IHSA state playoffs for volleyball. We won our first game and then we lost the second game for the regional championship. That wraps up the entire volleyball season for me and for the varsity. Next is club season in the fall. I can't wait, it feel so weird not to be playing and going straight home after school. In school it was a routine week, some more grades being put in the for the semester. However I did go to the zoo in Friday which was fun.

Week 34 of School

So close, we came in second in the cps city tournament. We lost to Von Steuben, last year's champions. It really sucked, but they were a better team. We didn't even bring it to three sets. It's alright we had an astounding season and I am really proud of my team. We went undefeated in the regular season which is cool. Oh well there is always next year.

Week 33 of School

I had a good week this week. My hardest class is no longer doing anything since the AP exam are over. We watched saving private Ryan in APUSH this week. It was a really good movie.The JV volleyball team one both of their city tournament games and we're ready to go to the semis and then the championship. We play either Lane or Westinghouse next week. I can't wait.

Week 32 of school

APUSH is finally over. I took the exam on Friday and now I feel so free. I had to sit in the gym for 4 hours furiously writing essays and bubbling in a scantrron. Next week the Cps city boys volleyball tournament starts. We were ranked top seed in the tournament since we were undefeated in conference. The first round is on Wednesday and the second round is on Friday. I feel pretty confident that we can win our first 2 games.

Week 31 of School

I had a pretty busy weekend. On Saturday I had a tournament far down south I had to go to for volleyball. However I had to leave early because they're was an APUSH review going on at school, so after two games at the tournament I and some other people had to leave. The APUSH review was pretty helpful. Basically what happened was people were split into groups and then every group was assigned a period and then each group thought each other group about their period. It went pretty well and I feel it was all really good info.

Week 30 of school

I do not remember anything from the week of school before spring break. All during spring break I slept in and did a lot of nothing. However I also spent a lot of time studying AP U. S history. The exam is coming up and volleyball is inergrting a lot. The first week back to school is review week and we have 4 straight games in a row .However I'm confident I can handle it.

Week 29 of School

We had our first loss this week. We lost to OPRF on Wednesday. The first set we did not play so well and they beat us by like 8 points. The second set was much better. We went over the 25 point score and the end score was 27-28. Unfortunately we lost, I'm not going to blame the loss on the referees mix up, but I will blame some of the loss on that. It's a little complicated but what happened was the refs made a call to quickly,they gave us the point, we won,  then they took back the point and we lost.  If the refs had justwnaoted a little and then made the call we would've won. Oh well at least we won against Schurz the next day.

Week 28 of School

Pretty great week this week. Not much happened school wise, the usual stuff, just tests and hw. However I had 2 volleyball games this week and we won both. The first was against lane and we destroyed them. Pretty easy win, not like our second game. Our second game was against Taft and that one way harder. It went to 3 sets, we lost the first one bad then we came back and won the second set and barely won on the third set. There was so much emotion on the final point it was crazy. Our next opponent is Von Steuban and hopefully we will beat them.

Week 27 of School

Good week this week. We had our first volleyball game this week. It was against North Grand High School. We absolutely demolished them, the scores for both sets were 25-6 and 25-4. All we did was serve at them the entire game. They couldn't really do anything, they could barely pass and the ball just hit the ground each time. At one point I think I served 13 times in a row and we got 13 points. They are a division lower than us son that must explain the huge gap in skill levels. Next week we have a game against Lane. Hopefully that game will go like the first.

Week 26 of School

Pretty good week this week. I feel much better than I did last week. My sickness is finally subsiding. Practice was good this week, we finally started doing some attacking so it was pretty fun. Our first game is next week on Tuesday. We play North Grand high school. I've never heard of that high school but hopefully there not as good as us so we can win. Even if they are better than us hopefully we can win, anything is possible. We're in pretty good shape though so we should be fine.

Week 25 of School

This week was not the best week for me. I got really sick on Wednesday. I felt horrible, I couldn't move, I was hot and cold, and I had a horrible sore throat. I ended up not going to school on Thursday and Friday. Over the weekend all I did was rest and try and catch up on homework. Hopefully I'll be able to kick this sickness and have a better week.

Week 24 of School

This week had its ups and downs. I did the best o have ever done on an APUSH test, I got one question wrong. I was pretty psyched about that, however towards the end of the week things started to go down. On Friday I found out that my Chem teacher Mr.kash will no longer be teaching my class because he has to take over physics classes due to the lay offs. This really sucked because I liked Mr. Kash. My weekend was pretty nice, I played volleyball with some of the guys from the volleyball team to prepare for tryouts on Monday. I'm a little nervous about tryouts, but I still feel pretty confident that I'll make the team.

Week 23 of School

Not much happened this week. We finished our transcendental is unit in english. I got a hundred on my APUSH quiz which I'm pretty happy about.Im having real trouble remembering what happened last week. Must've really been a boring and straightforward week. Hopefully somethings more happens next week that way I'll have more to write about in the blog.

Week 22 of School

Short week this week, we had Monday off and a third Thursday , so it was nice that they both lined up together like that. I had a math quiz this week that I fell pretty strong about, but I know I got one question wrong and it's been bugging me. The week was pretty lax on homework, but the weekend was not. I had a ton of homework and I'm still not finished. I'm going to have to do some tomorrow on the train and at lunch. Over the weekend when I wasn't doing homework I played some volleyball with my friends. My one friend's mom is in charge of the gym at his old elementary school somehow, so she let us put up the net and screw around for a while. It was good to get back into volleyball since we have tryouts for the school team in two weeks.

Week 21 of School

It's the start of a new semester, finally. I ended the last semester on a good note and got all the grades I wanted, which is nice. Last week was a good week for me. I don't have to work to hard or stress out. A lot of teachers were going easy on the first week of the new semester. I'm sure that will change. Also last week was the last week of volleyball club season. I'm kind of sad it's over, but school season starts soon so I'll be back in the court soon.

Week 20 of School

Finals week is finally over. It was brutal, but I survived and also go the grades I wanted. The super bowl was this weekend and unfortunately the Panthers lost. I ca t believe it. They had a perfect record and I expected them to steamroll the Broncos like they did with every other team. Sadly this was not the case. Denver's defense was just too good and Cam Mewton just could not get it together. He was powering these throws that the wide receivers could not catch. The wide receivers also messed up. They drop so many balls they shouldn't have dropped. Oh well, maybe by so oracle we'll see the Bears in the Super Bowl next year.

Week19 of School

It's the last week before finals and most of my classes are just reviewing.  I'm getting nervous, but I really shouldn't  be. I'm not really in the position where I have to do really well on a final to get the grade I want. I just have to make sure not to royally screw up any final and I should be fine. I will have a very uneventful weekend this week. It will just be a bunch of review for finals. At least next week we will have a long weekend.

Week 18 of School

I had a great week this week. For me it was pretty short, we didn't have school on Monday and on Friday I had a field trip. The field trip was for my art class and we went to the field museum where we had to sketch some animals that we saw. I sketched a tiger and a cockatoo. Later on Sunday I had a volleyball tournament. My team got 1st place in the tournament and I was pretty happy. We went undefeated for 5 games and I was very tired when I got home. Hopefully the next week will be just as good.

Week 17 of School

I had an almost good week this week. Up until Thursday everything was going smoothly. I had done well on my math quiz,did pretty Ok on my Apush test, and didn't have to stay up too late doing homework. I was pretty happy. Then on Thursday I sprained my ankle at volleyball practice. The one day we were scrimmaging I had to go and injure myself. At least I'll have the long weekend to rest up.

The Red Scare

In the early 1950s the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the U.S. began to really intensify. People became paranoid of the idea of having soviet communists in their society and overthrowing their democratic government. Communists were despised And looked down upon in society. These communists were called “Reds” because of their allegiance to the red soviet flag and thus came the name “The Red Scare”. The Red Scare led to mass hysteria within the U.S. and even in the U.S. government.

At the center of the Red Scare was Joseph McCarthy, senator of Wisconsin from 1947 to 1957. McCarthy took advantage of the U.S.’s fear and became a powerful figure in American politics through accusations and presenting himself as the only hope against communism in the United States.  It all started in February 1950 when McCarthy gave a speech at the Ohio County Women’s Republican Club in West Virginia where he claimed and singled out 205 state department employees to be communists. None substantial proof was found that any of the employees had affiliations with the communist party. Later on McCarthy conducted interviews with many more federal government employees, many of whom lost their jobs, and turned his accusations on the military. The military interviews were broadcasted on national TV, which proved to be his downfall. People saw how he berated and intimidated interviewees and the public opinion toward him became sour.

Once the hearings had concluded McCarthy had lost all of his allies and his witch hunt was brought to an end. McCarthy was condemned by the senate and said his actions were inexcusable, reprehensible, vulgar, insulting, and unbecoming of a senator. McCarthy kept his job but lost all his power with it. In 1957 he died at the age of 48 from alcoholism. From McCarthy we now have the word McCarthyism, which means the practice of making accusations of subversion or treason without proper regard for evidence.

Week 16 of School

This was the first week back from break and man was it tough. My sleeping schedule is all off and I'm tired at school. During the break I'd got bed at around 1:00 AM and wake up at 12:00 PM and now this whole school schedule is throwing me off. I had volleyball practice at Jones this week which was kind of cool. Not much else really happened. It is the first week back so teachers seem to not be trying to hard to swamp us. I still have two papers write this weekend though, which really sucks.

Week 15 of School

This week was so hard to get through. All I could think about was getting to winter break. My goal was just basically survive for one more week. On Friday we didn't do much since it was the last day before Christmas. We were visited by Santa during English and had to do a word search with all our names in it. In other classes we didn't do anything festive, but we also didn't do anything which was nice because I wouldn't be able to focus on anything on Friday. Well I'm off, Happy Holidays!
